On Finishing

I have a collection of canvases that hover in various states of completion. I select individual pieces from this group and set them out so I can watch them while I'm working on paintings that have specific direction. Sometimes I can see exactly what these incomplete works need to become finished, but mostly I'm overly cautious. Probably because when I like the initial direction, I expect them to become really special in the conclusion. These two studies came together like that . . . on the periphery. Small and special. I do like to finish.

Out of Context. Oil, enamel, and varnish on canvas, 20 x 16. Private Collection

Saving Flowers. Oil, varnish, and mixed media on canvas, 20 x 16. Private Collection
